my mother bought a minolta SLR while living in germany in '67, which was pointed at me and my brother for much of the 70s. by the time i was 11, i grabbed hold of it, turned it around on her and made friends with the dark room.

since then it's been off again on again, sometimes for years at a time, depending on available equipment and inspiration. i have mixed feelings about digital photography-- i love the ability we all have to shoot more for less cost, but i don't love the volume of photos posted indiscriminately and everywhere.

i began this blog on july 11, 2010, which was one year to the day since one of my lifelong friends died of a sudden stroke. joe (pictured on july 11, a shot from 1989 using the minolta SLR) was also one of my favorite photo subjects-- such a beautiful face, always so animated and still at ease in front of a camera.

the photoblog is also a way for me to share with my mom across the miles. i am hoping she will start a photoblog as well.
